Filipe, Professor at the University of Cologne and Imperial College London, is a biochemist who has studied molecular stress protection, metabolism, and ageing. His seminal work led to a paradigm shift in the use of C. elegans for studying host-microbe-drug interactions throughout ageing. An EMBO Young Investigator and Royal Society/Wellcome Sir Henry Dale Fellow, he combines invertebrate and mammalian models with systems biology to uncover microbiota-based strategies for treating ageing, cancer and metabolic disease.
